OTHER PROJECTS - 1 The idea of this planting design was to link three borders together in the garden by using perennial plants around existing trees and shrubs. The plants chosen give interest from spring into autumn, and each border is linked to another either by using the same type of plant but in different colours, or by repeating colours in the garden.

OTHER PROJECTS - 2 The first border is quite shady due to the large trees, therefore I planned for more woodland type plants and shade loving plants which will give more colour in the spring into early summer. The other border receives sun most of the day, and so could be planted in a more cottage garden style using shades of pinks, blues and purples to give colour during the summer. The planting was designed around some existing trees and shrubs. Space has been left for a few plants which need to be planted later on, but these plants will be easily positioned into the border by using the Planting Plan as a reference guide.

OTHER PROJECTS - 3 There was already an existing border next to the patio and an island bed. In the border next to the patio was a good looking Berberis, so the planting was designed around this. I reshaped the border from having straight lines to a curved front to fit in with the curves elsewhere in the garden. The colour scheme is predominately bold reds, pinks and purples, giving most of its colour during summer and early autumn. I then continued some of the colour scheme to lead the eye to the newly planted island bed. This already had a healthy bright pink Ice Plant and clump of Daylillies, so I added a few extra plants in shades of purples and oranges to give it more interest. A statue was also included into the new bed which provides a good focal point throughout the year, supplemented with colour in summer and early autumn.

OTHER PROJECTS - 4 This long garden had a raised border on both sides around a central lawn. I designed a mixed border design of evergreen shrubs to give colour and structure all year round with perennial plants infront to soften the raised edges and give interest mainly in spring and summer. When the shrubs have grown more, they can then be kept to their shape and space. A variety of Clematis have been planted near the fences to provide additional colour using their three flowering times. Springtime flowering plants were chosen for under the tree canopies and at one end of the right border a selection of ferns have been planted to give a different atmosphere before the trees. |
