FRONT GARDEN 1 Ready for reshaping the borders - click to enlarge Newly planted - click to enlarge Later in early Autumn - click to enlarge
The original front garden already had planting around a central lawn. I reshaped the lawn to allow access to move the lawnmower onto it, and put some plants either side of this walk on the area next to the drive. I moved some existing plants to give them more room and to show themselves off more, while other new plants were added to increase the colour in the front garden. Space has been left for a shrub to be moved into later in the autumn. Some plants and colours used in the front garden are also used in the back garden to help link the 2 gardens together. This is now a more welcoming front garden to walk through each day with colour and scent provided by the lavenders, while the 2 types of Ice Plants help to attract the butterflies and give the front garden a more relaxed feel.

FRONT GARDEN 2 Before - click to enlarge Newly planted - click to enlarge 2 months later - click to enlarge
The original front garden was
mainly laid to lawn with some planting at the both ends.
The grass was all taken up and
replaced with a curved path. This had two main purposes. The first
was to break up the planting area, which in turn created a separate
planting space within it, and the second was to provide easy access in
order to weed and maintain the plants. Its shape was designed to
encourage you to be able to walk around the front garden.
The planting within the
pathway has a standard Photinia as a focal point, with hostas and
ferns towards the house, and mainly spring time flowering plants in
the other parts of the garden against a backdrop of evergreen shrubs
to maintain structure throughout the year.

FRONT GARDEN 3
The original front garden was a concrete path, that was partly taken up and re-laid with blue bricks. One side of the front garden was then planted up with winter and spring flowering plants, while the other side which received more sun, was planted up for summer flowering plants. The following spring (above) sees primulas edging the new border (centre), followed by red and orange tulips giving strong splashes of colour as the perennials start filling out to flower later on.
